Early in the evening on December 28, 2009, we finished up our busy day of birding by walking along Camino del Oleoducto (Pipeline Road). The Squirrel Cuckoo was perched in a tree amid a jumble of branches. This photograph shows the bird's pinkish-cinnamon throat and chest, gray belly progressing to black on its undertail coverts where the feathers are tipped in white. Temperatures were in the upper 70's on this cloudy evening.
