Late in the afternoon on December 24, 2009, we boarded our bus and headed from El Valle's Canopy Lodge across a narrow valley to bird at Cariguana. Birding along a local road provided us looks at several interesting species. The road we were walking along began a slow, but steady, upward climb. Higher up along this road we stopped to see a Tropical Screech-Owl. The owl was roosting on private property, but our local guide got permission for the group to view the bird. The Tropical Screech-Owl is a small grayish brown owl with ear-tufts, whitish supercilia and black facial rim. It was a cloudy afternoon with intermittent rain, temperatures in the low 80's, and high humidity.
