On the morning of December 30, 2009, we birded along Pipeline Road. This road is just beyond the old Canal Zone town of Gamboa and winds for miles through the forests and foothills of Soberania National Park. It was a sunny morning with temperatures in the mid-70's. We saw three White-necked Puffbirds perched up in the trees. A large bird with a white foreneck and forehead, this species typically perches on high, exposed branches. Note the Puffbird's hooked, thick, massive bill as shown in this closeup view.
