We were birding along Sapote Creek the morning of Wednesday, January 18, 2012, when we photographed an Amazon Kingfisher, Chloroceryle amazona, on a perch overlooking the water. (Perching height has been directly correlated to the size of the species.) Females have dark bronzy green upperparts and white underparts with a broken green-colored breast band. Both sexes have a white collar and throat, a heavy black bill, and a ragged crest. Temperatures were in the mid-70's with partly cloudy skies.
