After a morning of birding at Refugio de Vida Silvestre-Pantanos de Villa Marshes (Lima, Peru) the morning of Friday, January 13, 2012, we drove to a beach area near Club Garza Real while on our way to Pucusana to look for shore birds. Belcher's (Band-tailed) Gull, Larus belcheri, was one of the birds that we photographed. First year gulls have a dark head (unlike the white head of a first year Kelp Gull). Temperatures were in the mid-80's with partly cloudy skies and high humidity.
