We spent the morning of Sunday, January 15, 2012, birding along a small tributary (Tapara Creek) of the Amazon below the main confluence of the Ucayali-Marañón Rivers. Brad photographed a pair of Black-capped Donacobius, Donacobius atricapilla, in the middle of a loud vocal duet. So intent on their vocal and display activities, tail flaring and wagging, and exposing their yellow necks, they seemed oblivious to our presence. A yellow iris is prominent on the bird's black head. The white outer rectrices are clearly visible on their laterally flared tails. Temperatures were in the upper 70's on this humid morning with overcast skies.
