We were birding along Sapote Creek the morning of Wednesday, January 18, 2012, when we photographed a Black-collared Hawk, Busarellus nigricollis. This side view of an adult shows its cinnamon-rufous color, white head, black crescent on the upper breast, dark iris, and short black tail. Its diet is composed mainly of fish but also includes water bugs, lizards, snails, and rodents. Temperatures were in the upper 60's with overcast skies.
