We birded along Sapote Creek the morning of Wednesday, January 18, 2012, until lunchtime. Brad took a side view of a Black-collared Hawk, Busarellus nigricollis, as it perched on a snag near the water's edge. It is named for its black bib. Rufous plumage, a whitish-colored head, and a short tail are additional identifying characteristics. Temperatures were in the low 80's with partly cloudy skies.
