We were up and birding bright and early along Yanallpa Creek the morning of Thursday, January 19, 2012. Yanallpa was the narrowest and smallest creek that we traversed and provided us with good birding opportunities. A Black-crested Antshrike, Sakesphorus canadensis, that was buried deep in the leafy river-edge forest, is shown here. The female has a rufous crest and a streaked breast. Temperatures were in the upper 60's with partly cloudy skies.
