I photographed an adult Black Vulture, Coragyps atratus, the morning of Friday, January 13, 2012, while we were birding the Refugio de Vida Silvestre-Pantanos de Villa Marshes. Our ultimate goal for the day was the fishing village of Pucusana which is located 60 km south of Lima in southern Lima Province. The head and neck of this adult are unfeathered, and the tip of the bill is yellow. The Black Vulture locates its food by sight and may dominate the Turkey Vulture at a feeding site. Temperatures were in the upper 70's with partly cloudy skies and high humidity (typical for the area).
