The morning of Thursday, January 19, 2012, we birded along Yanallpa Creek, the narrowest and smallest creek that we traversed during our Amazon journey. We headed back to the Aquamarina to go back the 250 miles to Iquitos (this time with the current). I photographed a Blue-and-yellow Macaw, Ara ararauna, from the ship's upper deck. The bird was perched atop a dead palm tree. Upperparts are a turquoise blue, and underparts are a golden-yellow. The top of the head is green. The white face is laced with thin black lines. A white throat is separated from yellow underparts by a black neck. Temperatures were in the mid-80's with clear skies and high humidity.
