We birded along Sapote Creek the morning of Wednesday, January 18, 2012, until lunchtime. Brad captured three of five Blue-and-yellow Macaws, Ara ararauna, that were perched in a floodplain or váreza forest. Upperparts are bright blue, and underparts are a golden-yellow. The long tail is blue and yellow. Irides are yellow. The bill is large and blackish in color. A bare white facial disc (turns pink in excited birds) with fine lines of blackish feathers is present. The throat is a very dark blue, and the forehead is green. Temperatures were in the mid-80's with partly cloudy skies.
