Lunch on Monday, January 16, 2012, was followed by a siesta until mid-afternoon when we set out on a birding expedition along Carocurahuayter Creek, a small north bank tributary of the Ucayali. Brad photographed a Bluish-fronted Jacamar, Galbula cyanescens, that was perched on an exposed branch. The crown is an iridescent blue-green color. Upperparts and breast are a glittering or iridescent green. The chest, belly, and undertail are rufous. This species is typically found south of the Amazon around Guadua bamboo, river islands, and edges of várzea (floodable forest). Temperatures were in the low 90's with partly cloudy skies and high humidity.
