We birded down river from the city of Requena along Supay Creek the morning of Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Brad photographed a Bluish-fronted Jacamar, Galbula cyanescens, that was perched in a river-edge forest. The crown is an iridescent blue-green color. Upperparts and breast are a glittering or iridescent green. The chest, belly, and undertail are rufous. This species is typically found south of the Amazon around Guadua bamboo, river islands, and edges of várzea (floodable forest). Temperatures were in the upper 70's with overcast skies and high humidity.
