We spent the morning of Monday, January 16, 2012, birding along Yarapa Creek, a tributary of the Amazon (South Bank). Brad photographed a Boat-billed Flycatcher (Megarynchus pitangua) that was perched in a river-edge forest. Similar to a Great Kiskadee, this species has a massive thick and broad black bill. The culmen is strongly arched. The wings are brownish with a limited amount of cinnamon edgings to the remiges. Underparts are a lemon yellow, and the head is boldly patterned black and white. Temperatures were in the mid-80's on this humid morning with hazy skies and high humidity.
