We were up and birding early on the morning of Monday, January 16, 2012, along Yarapa Creek, a tributary of the Amazon (South Bank). The Capped Heron, Pilherodius pileatus, was one of the birds that we saw. The face and base of the bill are blue and are set off by a black cap. Foreparts have a light buff wash. Temperatures were in the upper 70's with hazy skies and high humidity.
