We were up and birding bright and early along Yanallpa Creek the morning of Thursday, January 19, 2012. Yanallpa was the narrowest and smallest creek that we traversed during our Amazon journey. It provided us with many good birding opportunities. We photographed a Capped Heron, Pilherodius pileatus, as it flew over our skiff in the early morning sunlight showing its striking blue face and light buff-colored wash on its foreparts. Temperatures were in the low 70's with clear skies and high humidity.
