After lunch and a siesta on Thursday, January 19, 2012, Brad and I opted to go out for more birding with Steve, our VENT guide, and a local guide along with 6 others from the group. The rest of the group either went on a fishing trip or visited a native community. I photographed a male Chestnut-bellied Seedeater, Sporophila castaneiventris, that was perched in the reeds along a floodplain (várzea). The male is easily identified by his gray upperparts and chestnut underparts. Temperatures were in the upper 80's with cloudy skies and high humidity.
