We were up and birding early on the morning of Monday, January 16, 2012, along Yarapa Creek, a tributary of the Amazon (South Bank). The Chestnut-crowned Becard, Pachyramphus castaneus, was one of the first birds that we saw. Sexes are similar. The crown is chestnut. Below that is a grayish-colored superciliary that continues as a band across the bird's nape. Temperatures were in the upper 70's with hazy skies and high humidity.
