We were up and birding early on the morning of Monday, January 16, 2012, along Yarapa Creek, a tributary of the Amazon (South Bank). The Chestnut-crowned Becard, Pachyramphus castaneus, was one of the first birds that we saw. Sexes are similar with cinnamon coloration on their upperparts and a darker crown. A broad, grayish-colored superciliary continues as a band across the bird's nape. Underparts are a pale cinnamon-buff. Temperatures were in the upper 70's with hazy skies and high humidity.
