We birded along Yanallpa Creek, the narrowest and smallest creek that we traversed during our Amazon journey, the morning of Thursday, January 19, 2012. Brad photographed a Crane Hawk (Geranospiza caerulescens) that was perched in a river edge forest. This slender gray hawk has long reddish tarsi, a long tail, and a small-headed appearance. Irides are reddish, and the cere is a dull color. It forages by reaching into cavities and crevices with its long tarsi to extract prey...sometimes flapping its wings to maintain its balance. Temperatures were in the mid-70's with clear skies and high humidity.
