We spent the morning of Monday, January 16, 2012, birding along Yarapa Creek, a tributary of the Amazon (South Bank). I photographed a Cream-colored Woodpecker, Celeus flavus, that was perched in the canopy of a seasonally flooded forest (várzea). Plumage can vary from creamy buff to bright yellow-buff. Like most other members of Celeus, it has a noticeable large crest, and the male has a flicker-like red moustache. The tail and wings are brownish. It feeds mainly on ants and termites. Temperatures were in the upper 70's with hazy skies and high humidity.
