I took this photograph the morning of Friday, January 13, 2012, of a Rhinoceros Beetle. It belongs to a subfamily of the scarab beetle family (Scarabaeidae). We were birding in El Olivar Grove Park while waiting for a second VENT guide to arrive from Venezuela (he didn't make it until later that evening). El Olivar Park is located across the street from the Sonesta Posada del Inca Hotel el Olivar, the hotel we stayed at while in Lima. It is situated in a lovely residential area in San Isidro. Temperatures were in the upper 70's with partly cloudy skies and high humidity (typical for the area).
