We spent the morning of Monday, January 16, 2012, birding along Yarapa Creek, a tributary of the Amazon (South Bank). I photographed a Common Squirrel Monkey (Saimiri sciureus) that was jumping in the branches of a river-edge forest. The coat is short and grayish, and the legs are bright yellow. Squirrel Monkeys have a non-prehensile tail that can grown up to 16 inches in length. Their overall body length can be up to 12.5 inches long. These small primates seem to have a nervous disposition, are very agile, have nails instead of claws, are diurnal, and are both frugivorous and insectivorous. Temperatures were in the upper 80's on this humid morning with hazy skies and high humidity.
