We spent the morning of Monday, January 16, 2012, birding along Yarapa Creek, a tributary of the Amazon (South Bank). I took a photo of a flowering bromeliad that was growing along the river's edge. The Bromeliaceae (the bromeliads) are a family of monocot flowering plants of approximately 3,170 species that are native to the tropical Americas. Temperatures were in the low 80's on this humid morning with hazy skies and high humidity.
