I took a side view of this pair of Gray-hooded (headed) Gulls, Chroicocephalus cirrocephalus, as they stood on the bank of a marshy area in the Refugio de Vida Silvestre-Pantanos de Villa Marshes that we birded the morning of Friday, January 13, 2012. The Gray-hooded is a common resident along coastal marshes in Peru. A white primary flash is present in all plumages. Outer primaries contain more black than those of an Andean or Brown-hooded Gull. Legs and bill are red. A pale gray hood is visible on both birds. Temperatures were in the low 80's with partly cloudy skies and high humidity.
