The Aquamarina moved upriver after lunch on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, and relocated to a point about thirty minutes above the city of Reuqena. We didn't go out birding until late in the afternoon because of heavy rain. Once out, we explored Fosec Creek and ended the day with a long boat ride along a river island to look for Red-bellied Macaws. I photographed a Great Black-Hawk, Buteogallus urubitinga, perched above us on the edge of a river island. This juvenile is a large, long-legged, brown and buff-colored hawk. A broad pale superciliary is present. Underparts are buff and are coarsely streaked. Temperatures were in the low 80's with overcast skies, high humidity, and intermittent light rain.
