After lunch and a siesta on Thursday, January 19, 2012, Brad and I opted to go out for more birding with Steve, our VENT guide, and a local guide along with 6 others from the group. The rest of the group either went on a fishing trip or visited a native community. An adult Great Black-Hawk (Buteogallus urubitinga) is seen here with its all black plumage, yellowish cere and tarsi. The long black tail has a broad white base and is also tipped in white. It may be confused with a Solitary Eagle (similar in all plumages but larger with a shorter tail). Temperatures were in the upper 80's with partly cloudy skies and high humidity.
