We birded down river from the city of Requena along Supay Creek the morning of Tuesday, January 17, 2012. This Hooded Tanager, Nemosia pileata, was perched high in the canopy in a várzea woodland. An Amazonian species, it has yellow legs and irides. Males have black heads and sides of the neck giving them a 'hooded' appearance. Underparts are whitish, and upperparts are a blue-gray color. Temperatures were in the upper 80's with overcast skies and high humidity.
