We birded along Sapote Creek the morning of Wednesday, January 18, 2012, until lunchtime. Brad photographed a Hook-billed Kite, Chondrohierax uncinatus, as it perched high in the canopy near the water's edge. The orangish feet, strongly curved bill, bare yellowish crescent in front of the eye, black and white banded tail, and overall grayish coloration can be seen on this male bird. It feeds mainly on land snails. Temperatures were in the low 80's with partly cloudy skies.
