The morning of Saturday, January 14, 2012, we flew from Lima to Iquitos, Peru, where we boarded a bus that took us to a boat launch along the Itaya River. Here we caught a motor boat that took us to the upscale Al Frio y Al Fuego (Fire and Ice) floating restaurant for lunch. Around 3:45 PM we boarded our ship, the Aquamarina. The shallow draft on this ship allowed us entry into superb birding areas. I took this photo of Joanne while waiting on deck for the ship to get underway (we didn't depart until dusk). Temperatures were in the low 70's on this windy afternoon with "pouring" rain.
