We birded down river from the city of Requena along Supay Creek the morning of Tuesday, January 17, 2012. A Masked Crimson Tanager, Ramphocelus nigrogularis, was perched in a shrub on a river island. This male is brightly colored red with a black facial mask, wings, mantle, lower belly, and tail. The bill has a silver sheen. Temperatures were in the upper 70's with overcast skies and high humidity.
