We were up and birding bright and early along Yanallpa Creek the morning of Thursday, January 19, 2012. Yanallpa was the narrowest and smallest creek that we traversed and provided us with good birding opportunities. A Masked Tityra, Tityra semifasciata, that was perched on a snag, is shown here. The male has a black facial mask and tip to its thick hooked red bill. A red, featherless area surrounds each eye. The flight feathers are black, and the rest of the bird is a grayish white. Temperatures were in the upper 60's with partly cloudy skies.
