After lunch and a siesta on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, we headed downstream on the Ucayali River to El Dorado Creek for some late afternoon birding. This colorful Oriole Blackbird, Gymnomystax mexicanus, stood out against the gray sky. It is a bright saffron yellow bird with a black back, wings, and tail. A short black malar stripe along with a black eye-mask are seen on the face. Temperatures were in the mid-80's with partly cloudy skies.
