After lunch and a siesta on Thursday, January 19, 2012, Brad and I opted to go out for more birding with Steve, our VENT guide, and a local guide along with 6 others from the group. The rest of the group either went on a fishing trip or visited a native community. I photographed an Oriole Blackbird, Gymnomystax mexicanus, that was foraging in foliage along a floodplain (várzea). The adult has a bright yellow head and underparts. Upperparts, tail, eye mask, beak, and short malar stripe are black. Temperatures were in the upper 80's with cloudy skies and high humidity.
