We spent the morning of Monday, January 16, 2012, birding along Yarapa Creek, a tributary of the Amazon (South Bank). I photographed a Paradise Jacamar, Galbula dea, that was perched off in the distance. The bird's shape with its long, pointed graduated tail is diagnostic. It is a glossy bluish-black bird with a white throat and a tan crown. The bird appears very dark at a distance. Temperatures were in the upper 70's with hazy skies and high humidity.
