We birded down river from the city of Requena along Supay Creek the morning of Tuesday, January 17, 2012. This Paradise Tanager, Tangara chilensis, was perched high in the canopy in a várzea woodland. It is a neotropical bird with spectacular multicolors consisting of a light green head, sky blue underparts, and black upper body plumage. The beak is black, the legs are gray, and the rump is red. Temperatures were in the upper 80's with overcast skies and high humidity.
