After birding at Refugio de Vida Silvestre-Pantanos de Villa Marshes (Lima, Peru) the morning of Friday, January 13, 2012, we drove to a beach area near Club Garza Real to look for shore birds before driving on to Pucusana. A pair of Peruvian Pelicans, Pelecanus thagus, was flying over the Pacific Ocean close to the shoreline. This Pelecanus is similar to Pelecanus occidental, the Brown Pelican, but differs in its larger size and greater length. Temperatures were in the mid-80's with hazy skies and high humidity.
