Brad photographed a Puna Ibis, Plegadis ridgwayi, as it walked along the open wetlands in the Refugio de Vida Silvestre-Pantanos de Villa Marshes the morning of Friday, January 13, 2012. Our final destination for the day was to be the fishing village of Pucusana which is located 60 km south of Lima in southern Lima Province. The Puna Ibis has a dark purple-brown colored body with green highlights. The head and neck are chestnut, and the wings and tail are green. The long slender bill is curved. Facial skin as well as the iris is red. Temperatures were in the low 80's with partly cloudy skies and high humidity.
