The Aquamarina moved upriver after lunch on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, and relocated to a point about thirty minutes above the city of Reuqena. We didn't go out birding until late in the afternoon because of heavy rain. Once out, we explored Fosec Creek and ended the day with a long boat ride along a river island to look for Red-bellied Macaws. I took a closeup shot of a Roadside Hawk, Buteo magnirostris, to show its plumage. The iris, cere, and legs are yellow. This grayish-colored adult has rufous primaries along with gray barring on its lighter gray chest and belly. Temperatures were in the low80's with overcast skies, high humidity, and intermittent light rain.
