We were birding along Sapote Creek the morning of Wednesday, January 18, 2012, when we photographed a Scarlet-crowned Barbet, Capito aurovirens, perched in the canopy of a river-edge forest. This large barbet has a prominent orange-colored unstreaked breast with unstreaked olive flanks and upperparts. Males have a red crown and nape. Temperatures were in the mid-70's with partly cloudy skies.
