The Aquamarina moved upriver after lunch on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, and relocated to a point about thirty minutes above the city of Reuqena. We didn't go out birding until late in the afternoon because of heavy rain. Once out, we explored Fosec Creek and ended the day with a long boat ride along a river island to look for Red-bellied Macaws. I photographed a Silver-beaked Tanager, Ramhocelus carbo, that was perched on a river island. The male's throat and breast is a deep crimson red. The remaining plumage is a velvety black except for the head and nape which are a more muted shade of crimson. The enlarged lower mandible is bright silvery-blue, and the upper mandible is blackish. Temperatures were in the low 80's with overcast skies, high humidity, and intermittent light rain.
