We spent the morning of Monday, January 16, 2012, birding along Yarapa Creek, a tributary of the Amazon (South Bank). I photographed a Slate-colored Hawk, Leucopternis schistaceus, that was perched atop an acacia tree. Its plumage is slate gray, the white banded black tail is short, and the cere and tarsi are a reddish-orange. The iris is yellow. Temperatures were in the upper 70's with hazy skies and high humidity.
