We spent the later part of the afternoon of Sunday, January 15, 2012, birding along Yapara Creek, a tributary of the Amazon River located below the main confluence of the Ucayali-Marañón Rivers. Brad took this side view of a Solitary Black Cacique, Cacicus solitarius, an all-black bird with a dark iris. The nearly white colored bill is long and pointed (chisel-like). It is typically not a flocking species and is found alone or in pairs. Temperatures were in the mid to upper 80's with blue skies and high humidity.
