Lunch on Monday, January 16, 2012, was followed by a siesta until mid-afternoon when we set out on a birding expedition along Carocurahuayter Creek, a small north bank tributary of the Ucayali. Brad took this dorsal shot of a Straight-billed Woodcreeper, Dendroplex picus, that was foraging in the understory. The bill is pale and pointed. The throat is whitish, and the rufous colored breast has pale streaking as does the head. Upperparts are rufous. Temperatures were in the low 90's with partly cloudy skies and high humidity.
