We birded along Sapote Creek the morning of Wednesday, January 18, 2012, until lunchtime. Brad photographed a Striated Heron, Butorides striata, that had landed on a branch overlooking the water's edge and was nicely displaying its greenish-black cap with a short crest. This species has been observed to bait its prey by dropping insects or leaves onto the water's surface to attract prey. Temperatures were in the low 80's with partly cloudy skies.
