After lunch and a siesta on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, we headed downstream on the Ucayali River to El Dorado Creek for some late afternoon birding. A Striated Heron, Butorides striata, was perched at the edge of a floodplain or váreza forest. Juveniles have more streaking on the neck and wing coverts than adults. Legs, lores, and irides are yellowish in color. Temperatures were in the mid-80's with partly cloudy skies.
