After dinner on Thursday, January 19, 2012, we went out on a night birding expedition at the junction of the Maraņon and the Ucayali Rivers. Spotting two Great Potoos, a Pauraque, a Ladder-tailed Nightjar, and a Striped Owl (Pseudoscops clamator) made us realize how lucky we were. This owl's plumage is heavily streaked, irides are dark, long ear tuffs are present but are often held back, and a white facial disk is present. Evening temperatures were in the mid-70's with partly cloudy skies and some visible stars and lots of heat lightening.
