The morning of Thursday, January 19, 2012, we birded along Yanallpa Creek, the narrowest and smallest creek that we traversed during our Amazon journey. This photograph shows a White-eared Jacamar, Galbalcyrhynchus leucotis, with its prominent white ear coverts patch. The reddish-chestnut colored plumage, chunky looking shape, short-tail, and thick reddish bill are other characteristics of the species. Temperatures were in the low 80's with clear skies and high humidity.
