We birded down river from the city of Requena along Supay Creek the morning of Tuesday, January 17, 2012. I took a side view shot of a male Yellow-bellied Dacnis, Dacnis flaviventer, to show its black upperparts and bright yellow underparts. The head is back with a green crown and nape. Deep red irides, black throat, and black stipples on the chest are other characteristics of the male. Temperatures were in the mid-80's with overcast skies and high humidity.
